What is Diabetes?

Although Diabetes has no cure, you can manage and maintain your diabetes and stay healthy.

Carestay Diabetic Care Support helps you manage diabetes, by providing specific diet and nutrition counselling to better manage your eating regimen. Our professional staff will provide you with individualized care, information and teaching to help you understand, monitor and maintain healthier insulin levels.

The most common types of diabetes are  Type 1, Type 2 and, Gestational Diabetes
Diabetes is a metabolic disease that occurs when your blood glucose, also called blood sugar, is too high. Blood glucose is your main source of energy that comes from the food you eat. Insulin is a hormone made by the pancreas, which helps glucose from food to get into your cells to be used for energy. Our body does not always use insulin well; therefore, the glucose stays in the blood and doesn’t reach the cells. Too much glucose in the blood can cause health problems.

  • In type 1 Diabetes your body does not make Insulin. This is mostly found in children and young adults. People with type 1 diabetes need insulin injections every day to stay alive.
  • In type 2 Diabetes your body does not make or use Insulin well. Type 2 Diabetes is found in all ages and is the most common type of diabetes.
  • Gestational Diabetes develops in some women when they are pregnant. This type of diabetes goes away after the baby is born, however, if it stays you can develop type 2 Diabetes.

  • After having many disappointing experiences with other agencies and caregivers, Carestay managed to match my parents with a caregiver who CARES and is committed to the needs of elderly people.
